Turning Roots Farm was started in the spring of 2009 at our home farm in Downingtown, PA. Originally a working dairy, our home farm has seen over 200 hundred years of history, development, and transformation. There we began with a dream of growing healthy whole food for ourselves and our community, while providing opportunities for people to directly connect with their farmers, their laying hens, and the fields where their food was produced.
In the first two growing seasons, we opened a farm stand, began going to local farmer’s markets, hosted volunteers and service groups and delivered several education programs for both youth and adults.
In the spring of 2011 we began an exciting relationship with Lundale Farm, in Pughtown, PA. Lundale Farm, Inc., a non-profit organization, is dedicated to revitalizing the agricultural heritage of our area by supporting sustainable farms, training farmers and educating landowners in order to put productive land into wise agricultural use.
Lundale Farm is the location of our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Situated on French Creek, close to the Warwick County trail system, there are many vibrant ecosystems at play on the farm. We look forward to expanding our school and community based educational offerings here as time goes on.
Last season we had the amazing opportunity to be the pilot farm for the Farm Lease Connection program , a land leasing initiative of the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture (PASA). They helped connect us to land leasing opportunities as well as providing invaluable support during the early growth of our farm business. PASA is amazing! If you don’t know about them, you should definitely check them out.
More exciting adventures to come…
